Last year was the first time Kyle and I got professional photos taken for our Christmas cards. And I’m so mad I didn’t make the time to do it every year because I love how these turned out and I’m so thankful I’ll have these memories forever! Don’t be too busy for family photos – it’s 30 min to an hour out of your life and you won’t regret doing it. Here are the details of our family photography session.
I took to Instagram and found a wonderful photographer based in the DFW area, Photography by Kylee. She specializes in weddings and families and is willing to travel. I was immediately drawn to her work because of her moodier edits – I feel like this is better for a western vibe. She was so kind, easy to work with, and organized. We brought our dog, General, and Kylee was so patient with his big-lab-energy. We did these in October and it was still 100 degrees here in Fort Worth so we were all pretty sweaty but she made us feel comfortable in front of the camera with her fun personality and lightheartedness – really took our minds off of the heat! We scheduled a 30 min session and it was plenty of time to get a variety of photos.
We did these in some cactus gardens near the Fort Worth Stockyards. I thought the light green of the cactus was the perfect backdrop to our deep green and red attire. Here are our outfit details:
- My dress (I wore a Medium and I thought the length was good for me at 5’7″.) Here’s less expensive dupe.
- My boots (I would size down 1/2 a size) Here’s a less expensive dupe.
- My belt is from Free People but they don’t make it anymore. Here’s a similar one and here’s a less expensive dupe.
- My hat (This was a Maverick Fine Western Wear exclusive Beaver20 Silverbelly and had them shape it in their shop. You can also buy direct from Greeley but you’ll need to know your hat size and what shape you want. I have a Cattleman crown with Western brim. I highly recommend getting it shaped in-store so they can customize it to your face shape. Fun fact: Greeley Hat Works made the hats for the cast of Yellowstone.)
- Kyle’s shirt
- Kyle’s jeans
- Kyle’s hat (This is a custom hat from Western Legacy Co. You either need to go in-store, email, or call them.)
- Kyle’s boots (You must condition these regularly.)
Consider this your reminder to book your family photography session! And if you’re in the DFW area, I highly recommend reaching out to Photography by Kylee!
