Southwestern Boho Desert Living Room Decor

Ever since we moved to Texas, I’ve struggled with finding the right type of home decor. I wanted items that fit the Texas lifestyle but not too over-the-top Western. You know, with heavily ornate wooden furniture and giant Texas stars everywhere. I needed something light and organic but still warm and welcoming like a Texas home should be. And a good mix of smooth and gritty textures.

After quite a bit of Pinteresting and research, I stumbled upon some ideal keywords in my home decor inspiration search: “Texas boho” and “Desert chic.” These led me to some great ideas for any room.

And the best part, I always work with a frugal budget. If you can find a way to make something beautiful without spending a ton, why not do it? My home decor is still a work in progress but hopefully you’ll find your own inspiration in some of these ideas.

Coffee table accents

Add a non-intrusive pop on your coffee table with potted succulents and a small saddleblanket handwoven mat. Simple, cheap, and looks like you made a decent effort! And I have a secret… the succulents are faux. This concept also work really well for bedside tables, dressers, end tables, etc. Scroll below the photos for links to products.

Faux succulents (15 pieces)

Terracotta Clay pots (set of 16): I put a piece of foam in the bottom of each pot and topped it off with real potting soil I had on hand.

Saddleblanket handwoven Chimayo style mats (4 mats)

Rustic coffee table – this table has lasted me for 5 years so far and it’s VERY affordable! I have the matching end table and tv console too. The good ol Walmart special.

I couldn’t find the exact marble coasters but here are some that would work well for some texture change.

Dimensional and functional hexagonal wall shelves

This is probably my favorite part of my Texas boho living room. These hexagonal wall shelves are not only unique, they’re very functional. They add dimension without being overbearing and there’s plenty of room for customization. Since I’m a minimalist, I threw in a few faux succulents and plants and the wall art was good to go!

Hexagonal wall shelves (set of 5) – There are many hexagonal wall shelf options on Etsy but I can attest to these. They come as 5 separate hexagons so you can customize and link together however you see fit. They also come with two nails per hexagon for hanging.

Faux succulents (15 pieces) – same ones I used for my coffee table

Small ceramic succulent pots (set of 6)

Mid-century potted snake plant

Desert watercolor print – This is a very affordable desert print that I happened upon that has subdued color to go with any neutral color scheme and fit perfectly on the other side of the hexagons.

Western, but not too Western, movie poster art

Ok, maybe I lied. These are my favorite part of my decor. I found these on Etsy and it took me all of 5 seconds to realize I NEEDED them. Super cool and fun comic movie poster prints are perfect for a little burst of color for my Texas boho theme. And who doesn’t need a couple badass gunslingers on their wall?

I got 8.5″ x 11″ prints, added a black 11″ x 14″ matte (with 8.5″ x 11″ opening), and put them in 11″ x 14″ frames.

Cowboy hat bonus

Another super easy option for your walls to add dimension… hang your cowboy hats! It’s so hard to store cowboy hats anywhere. They usually live under our bed in their big boxes but this is a great way to show them off. We just used long screws to hang them.
